Decorations
Decorations will vary widely, depending upon
where you are having your Prom. Some hotels
and other facilities do all the decorating of tables, as well as
providing a balloon arch for the dance floor. Other places will expect
you
to do all of the decorating. Many ballrooms
are quite beautiful, and will
need very little in the way of decorations. But your student committee
will
have ideas about this. They will be able to choose the color of the
linens,
and whatever other extras the facility
may provide. Decorating can be very
time consuming. So if you find a facility that is willing to decorate
for
you, it will be very helpful. But if you are having your dance at a
facility
that doesn't help, the students are usually very capable of doing the
work
themselves.

Seniors
Get Ready!
Senior Year Expenses
There are more varied activities and tasks that take place in your
senior year than just about any other time in your life. Many
activities
will be great fun and create memories for a lifetime; such as, prom,
graduation,
homecoming, or senior trips. Other tasks and pressures will be such
that
you will hope never to have to do them again; such as SAT, ACT, AP
Exams,
or filling out college applications. . .

Hotels,
Alternative Sites
There are a variety of locations to be found for use for high school
proms.
The most common are hotels. But even these
can vary widely in the both the
size of their ballrooms and the services offered. It would be wise for
you
to go and look at various locations in person so that you can see what
they
offer.

Prom Tips for
Guys:
T U X E D O :
Most guys wear tuxedos to their proms, which according to
Emily Post is considered -semi-formal attire. But if you have a nice
dark-colored suit, you might be able to wear that, depending on your
particular dance. The school or social mores where you live may require
a tux for the evening. (However, in California, people are much more
unconventional and casual--so check out your options. )

Today's
Prom Tips:
Academy Awards 2008
ACADEMY AWARD FASHIONS 2008
We learned as we watched Sunday night in Los Angeles, that the film industry needs time to get their "act together." The stars were a little predictable in their fashion choices for the evening, perhaps because they didn't have as much time or selection due to the writer's strike ending so near to the Awards Show date.
The colors worn most were red and black. The gowns were mostly fitted; either strapless, or with one shoulder. Lots of dangling diamond earrings dazzled, and ropes of jewels appeared around stars necks. (Nicole Kidman had so many diamonds around her neck that her dress was almost forgotten.) Hair was often simple...ponytails, simple chignons, and soft curls were prevalent, perhaps because of the ominous rain clouds that threatened as they arrived on the red carpet.
There were a few departures from the crowd. Keri Russell and Cameron Diaz opted for pastel gowns, and Renee Zellweger looked great in her choice of a classic metallic.
We really liked some looks...

Limousine
A limousine is a very expensive extra for your prom night. It can be fun
for three or four couples to go together to the prom in a limousine, and some do.
Just be sure that you want to do this and budget accordingly. The standard cost
for a limo for the evening starts around $400. If you split the cost between
eight of you, it might be something you would like to do. But be sure to check
to see that the limousine service is licensed by the state. Otherwise, . . .
Hair
Prom night is obviously one of the most important social events in a teen's life. It combines romance, a party atmosphere, and a sense of saying goodbye to high school and carefree days. Everyone wants their prom experience to come off without a hitch and become a memory they'll cherish for the rest of their lives. For many girls, one aspect of the big night often becomes incredibly important: which prom hair style to choose.
There's more to this decision than you might think. Prom hair styles have to withstand a lot of activity for several hours. Imagine trying to keep a hair style looking great while dancing, rushing around to see friends, and then partying at all of the after-prom parties. Whew! Seen in that light, choosing the best hair style takes more careful planning than you thought, huh?
Asking a Date to the Prom 2008

Asking
a date to the Prom for a guy or a gal can be a very intimidating
experience, but we've asked prom-goers to submit their stories about
just how they ask their date to the Prom, from funny to romantic . . .

Prom 2008
SAG AWARDS 2008

The trends to watch were simple; soft
hairstyles, often with gentle curls and a center part; makeup subdued,
often with richly colored jewel toned lips to match dresses. And
another trend on the night where the stars shined, was little or no
jewelry. Most opted out except for small earrings. Perhaps this was
because many of the dresses were a bold statement all by themselves.
So while
you are wondering, “What
to wear?” “What to wear?” for Prom, follow the
trends you liked and look like a shining star in your own galaxy!!!

Tips
about Prom Dresses
The advice I always
give is that they should try on lots
and lots of Prom dresses, even if they don't think they like a dress on
the
hanger. You never know until you try it on. Also, they
should take someone with them to give his or her opinion as to which
dress looks best on them. It is difficult to do, but a girl needs
to look past how pretty a Prom dress is and really see how the Prom
dress makes
her look. For example, a very full-skirted ball gown won't look
as good on someone who is short. It tends to make a short girl
look shorter, where a slimmer skirt will show off her petite frame.

Ways to Have More Prom
Fun
Go in Groups
Most students find the prom a
lot more fun if they go in a group. Couples can share a car, and several cars can go together and
arrive at the dance at the same time. This way you can sit together at
the same table and enjoy each other's company all evening. Remember
that the earlier you arrive, the better your chances will be of finding
an empty table where you can all sit.
Pre-Dance
Party
You may
want to get together at one person's house to take pictures and have hors d'oeuvres. This gives
everyone an opportunity to get a good start on the evening. It will
also give some parents a chance to make a fuss over all of you. They
will probably be having as much fun watching as you are.

How Much will the Prom Cost?
The cost
of Prom Night can vary greatly from around
$150 to as much as $1500. But you don't have to spend a fortune to have
a good time if you plan ahead and make intelligent choices. Just be
sure that when you decide to spend money on a particular item the money
spent is worth it to you. It is your money and your night; choose
wisely. The following is a list of items that will probably be part of
your evening's expenses:
T I C K E T
This will vary from school to school. Some schools still have their
proms in their school gymnasiums, and in these cases, the cost of the
ticket could be as low as $20 per couple. But most high schools have
their Junior-Senior Prom off-campus at a hotel, country club, or other
ballroom facility. In a few of these cases, the ticket will cost
$40-$50 per couple, but most prom tickets now cost between $100-$175
per couple. In these cases diner is included in the dance price and
your entire evening can be spent with your friends at the prom itself.
If your prom's ticket is in the $100-$175 range, you and your date may
want to consider splitting the cost of the ticket. Most students do. It
is just too expensive for one person to pay for the whole thing.
